Ramcharitmanas by Tulsidas

On February 3, 2014 By Vikash Pathak Category: Indian Literature

Ramcharitmanas is an epic poem written by Tulsidas during the Mughal Period in India.

Tulsidas, also known as Goswami Tulsidas, was a great poet. He was a worshipper of Ram. The Ramcharitmanas is one of the most popular books in this country.

Its story: The Ramcharitmanas is a religious book of the Hindus. This book has several great qualities. It presents the life-history of Ram. Ram was the eldest son of King Dasaratha of Ayodhya. The king had three queens – Kausalya, Kaikeyi and Sumitra. Ram, Lakshman, Bharat and Shatrughan were his sons. Ram was banished for fourteen years. So, Ram, Sita and Lakshman went into the forest. Ravana, the king of Lanka, kidnapped Sita. Ram had to kill Ravana. At last they all returned to Ayodhya.

Ram & Sita: Ram and Sita are ideal hero and heroine. They are ideal husband and wife. Each is fully devoted to the other. Sita lives with her husband in joy and sorrow. Tulsidas has presented both of them as ideal persons. Ram is an obedient son, loving brother, sincere friend and true husband.

A Religious book: The Ramcharitmanas is considered as a holy book and almost every Hindu family has a copy of this book. It is a religious book, no doubt. It is also a study in psychology. Tulsidas has described the childhood of Ram and his brothers in a very interesting way. Ramcharitmanas is a book of high moral values.

Its verse, dialogue and teachings: The Ramcharitmanas s is written in verse. The dialogues between Lakshman and Parshuram are really wonderful. The book teaches us lessons in love, in war, in politics and in friendship. The poetic quality is another beauty of this book.

One of the most important ideals of the book is ‘Ram Rajya”. It is the golden dream of the people of India.
