Introduction: Hemanta Mukherjee, also known as Hemanta Kumar Mukhopadhyay, is an immortal name in the world of songs. He is our pride, joy and wonder. He was an inborn artist. By his wonderful creative genius, melodious tune and art of singing, he has marked a striking note in the realm of Bengali, Hindi and other songs.
Birth: Hemanta Mukherjee was born on 26th June in 1920 at Benaras.
Early Life: His parents returned to Calcutta and his early education began in Nasiruddin Memorial High School. He showed his intelligence from his school-life and passed the Matriculation Examination in the first division.
Career: Hemanta Mukherjee was admitted to Jadavpur Engineering College but gradually he was attracted to the art of songs and music. With the help of Subhash Mukherjee, one of his intimate friends, he was introduced to the Broad-casting corporation office. After it, he was invited by the H.M.V. Company for audition. Thus he entered into the world of songs and music with wonder of his genius and his name has been familiarized all over the singing world.
Contribution: He has immensely contributed to Rabindra Sangeet, Hindi-geet, Ghazal and film-songs. Thus he achieved a great popularity and was awarded the ‘D-Lit’ by the Rabindra Bharati University and the Calcutta University.
Death: His noble soul left this mortal world on 26th September 1989, by serious heart-attack.
Conclusion: Hemanta Mukherjee is no more with us but his immortal songs, cassettes-songs and film remind him again and again and we cannot but recall his genius with all regards and reverence.
