I have a great liking to read different kinds of books by different authors. Of all these books, the short stories and novels by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay have attracted and impressed me most because of many reasons. His works consist of the stories about the poor, distressed and oppressed people of the society. He stood against all social injustice and he manifested his ideas and views through his immortal works. He had a great sympathy for the helpless.
Women were the objects of oppression of many superstitions of the then Bengali society.
Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay wrote his stories about the pain, sorrow and joy of common men and women and these natural emotions were expressed through the living characters of his works, among his works, “Ramer Sumati’, ‘Dutta’, ‘Debdas’, ‘Bindur Chhele’, ‘Bipradas’ have contributed a lotto the prosaic world of Bengali literature.
Another significant feature of his writing is his style.
Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay wrote in such a simple, but attractive style that his works became acceptable and appreciable by one and all. In the world of short stories he proved his most significant skill which has made him famous. It is mainly as short story writer Sarat Chandra’s immortal name has been known not only to the Bengalees and Indians but also to the people of the world.
