Importance of Forest Conservation

On March 29, 2014 By Rahul Kakkar Category: Environment

Forest Conservation is of utmost importance for a large country like India. Management practices should also include the protection and conservation of forests.

In India, an organized movement to save trees was started in 1972 which has now become famous as Chipko Movement. This movement has brought a countrywide general awareness about the importance of conserving forests and the trees. The integrity and proper function of forest ecosystems are intimately associated with the health and prosperity of living beings. Tree planting can be done in private individual lands, vacant land on the banks of ponds, embankments and along the railway tracks.

Forest Conservation plays a significant role in maintaining the overall environmental balance. The aim of the forestry program should be two-fold:

  1. Creation of green belts for changing landscape in a planned manner, and
  2. Planting of such trees which will increase the economic resources and help in the livelihood of the people.
