Location of Coal Mines in India
The Coal Mines are located across various states of India. There are generally two types of formation of coal in India - Gondwana formation and Tertiary formation.
Coal Mines of Gondwana formation are found in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana (previously part of Andhra Pradesh), Maharashtra, Orissa and Uttar Pradesh.
The coal of the Tertiary formation are found in Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Jammu and Kashmir.
Tertiary coals are raised in Daranggiri (Garo hills), Cherrapunji, Laitryngew, Maolong, Langrin (Khasi and Jaintia hills), in Meghalaya, Makum, Jaipur and Nazir in upper Assam, Namchik Namphuk area of the Tirap district in Arunachal Pradesh and in Kalakot in Jammu and Kashmir.
