Well Irrigation
Well irrigation is gradually giving way to energized tube wells. Though in India, there are many wells still in use where electricity has not arrived and the farmers are too poor to purchaser diesel oil.
The well irrigation are mainly found in the northern plains or the southern deltas. Strangely, there are Persian wheels on the Mt. Abu plateau in Rajasthan.
Traditional methods are still in use to raise water from wells, such as the Persian wheel, the inclined plain, the bucket and the lever. Lift irrigation is also done by such methods, such as the tilting donga, the swinging basket and the large wooden spoon.
