Muhammad Hakim was the ruler of Kabul. He was Akbar’s younger brother. He was encouraged to invade the Punjab by a revolt in Bengal which aimed at placing him on the throne.
Muhammad Hakim advanced as far as Lahore but was compelled to retreat when Mughal Emperor Akbar marched against him (1581).
Akbar pursued him up to Kabul which surrendered to him. Muhammad Hakim submitted and was allowed to retain Kabul as a dependency.
However, Muhammad Hakim died shortly afterwards and Kabul was added to Akbar’s empire with Man Singh as its governor (1585).
