On September 22, 2015 By Kiran Category: Essays, Paragraphs and Articles

Emperor Shahjahan is well-down in history for pomp and splendor. He built many monuments and magnificent buildings during his regime. The Taj Mahal in Agra on the bank of the Yamuna river is the greatest of all. It is one of the wonders of modern history.

Shahjahan built Taj Mahal to preserve the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaj. It costs lakhs of rupees. Choicest white marbles were brought from best part of India and most skilful artists and architects were employed to finish it with arduous labor of many years in 1642.

Taj Mahal is a wonderful building. Many visitors from home and abroad visit this beautiful spot to have a view of the Taj. Thus, they quench their thirst for aesthetics. The buildings have inspired many poets, painters and modern architects.

The Taj Mahal is a living beauty in a moonlit night. During day it changes its colors from time to time. The shadow of the sky reflects on white marbles; change its colors as well as mood.

The poets describe it with many epithets – ‘Love in marbles’, ‘cry of Shahjahan outside and cry of Mumtaj inside’, Tagore described it as ‘a drop of tears on the check of time’.
