Essay on Importance of Physical Education
Physical education is a coursework directed towards developing physical competence in children and imparting knowledge about sporting activities, healthy lifestyle, and injury prevention.
Keeps the body fit: An important part of physical education is learning and performing exercises. These exercises are meant to stimulate the entire body and keep it active. The exercises are simple and easy to perform every day. These build muscle strength, cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility, endurance and body structure.
Boosts Self Confidence: While the physical education teaches the skill of working in a group, developing positive relationships and body image, it develops feelings of confidence and self-esteem in an individual. It keeps the negatively and pessimism at bay.
Enhances reflexes and motor skills: Physical education involves activities such as stretching, running, walking, throwing, catching etc. These are the basics and helpful for building strong motor skills and reflexes. This will go on to make a person’s brain active and sharp.
Develops good health and nutrition habits: A PE teacher would give classes on good health and nutrition habits. This will include teachings on good food choices, healthy portions and staying hydrated. With these developed and habituated at a young age, a person will develop good mental clarity and physic.
Promotes psychological well-being: While physical fitness is thought in physical education, a person naturally develops sound mind. This helps him or her to stay without anger, anxiety, confusion, depression, negative self-talk, self-doubt on body image, self-esteem and self-concept.
Improves cognitive ability: Regular physical activity has shown to enhance the development of overall brain and its cognitive ability. It improves the lifespan of the numerous neural networks in the brain and stimulates to grow new neurons. In students, this would help to develop strong thinking and memory skills.
Boosts immunity of the body: Physical education includes performing various aerobic and agility exercises. These exercises over time strengthen the immunity of the body by increasing the number of WBCs and changing the behavior of antibodies.
Promotes teamwork: Being part of a team while playing different games such as basketball, soccer etc is a significant aspect of physical education. The coursework of PE uses evidence-based approaches to provide an opportunity to every pupil develop their team playing skills.
Nurtures sporting ability: If a student is identified with natural sporting ability, PE helps to nurture it. It forms the foundation for student sportsmen and athletes who develop particular gaming or athletic skills. It shapes the future of sports by supporting children who can excel in competitive sports.
Develops bone strength and agility: Kids and teens need physical activity to grow to their fullest physical potential. This includes development of strong bones, stamina and agility in the body. While PE teaches various forms of exercises and they are performed in front of an instructor, it ensures gradual development of strong bones.
Helps to develop disciple and willpower: With physical education a student develops self-control, concentration, and positivity. This supports a mentality to aim for the better and push oneself to achieve further in a healthy way. It makes overactive and children with ADH calm down and stay disciplined.
Gives an opportunity to learn new activities: Physical education curriculum comprises of various activities such as running, throwing, catching, balancing, striking, etc used in sports such as volleyball, baseball, gymnastics, karate etc. Many of these skills or parts of them can be applied throughout one’s life at different instances.
Teaches to practice exercises the right way: As physical education is given at an early age, it inculcates good habits to perform exercises. The students learn the exercises in front of the instructor and this ensures that exercises are learned the right way. This avoids possible stress-related damage to the ligaments, bones and muscles.
Lowers the risk of falling and injuries: Ask any athlete and they will say keeping the body active and flexible is the best way to minimize the risk of falling and getting injured. Physical education teaches a student to stay balanced and use the right form of technique when walking, running, jumping etc.
Physical Education assists to get good grades: Today students cut down on physical training to spend time on academics. This has its downsides. It is now proven that students who are physically active earn higher grades in tests than their peers. Involving in physical education keeps the body energetic, concentrated and balanced which helps to study for long hours.
Overall, physical education is a key aspect for the well-being and development of a growing child.
