What does the term ‘freedom fighter’ mean?

Category: Blog On June 28, 2017 By LightHouse

‘Freedom fighter’ is a term that is almost exclusively used in a political context. This is because the freedoms that freedom fighters fight for are political freedoms.

Freedom fighters fight for the increased freedom and independence of oppressed communities. They can act as individuals or they can act in groups.

The goal of a freedom fighter might be to gain equal rights for a particular community within a state, or they may want a colonized state to be recognized as an independent nation, free from the control of colonizers. Whatever their specific goals, though, political freedoms and political independence are always the governing principles of the freedom fighter’s activity.
