Why is natural gas better than other fossil fuels?

Category: Power and Energy On December 9, 2017 By Lighthouse

Many people are starting to advocate the use of natural gas rather than other fossil fuels as a source of power in homes and businesses. One of the key reasons why this is the case is because burning natural gas emits much less harmful CO2 into the atmosphere than burning the other two key fossil fuels: coal and oil. More specifically, natural gas emits about 50% of the carbon dioxide that coal emits when burned.

In addition, natural gas is a more abundant energy source than coal and oil. It has been estimated that the planet’s coal reserves could run out within the next half a century. However, natural gas is in much more abundant supply. What is more, natural gas can be piped right across the globe from its source to countries that need it most.

Natural gas is not as energy efficient as coal or oil. However, it is cheaper and so this is another advantage that it has.
