Taj Mahal - Short Essay.
Taj Mahal is a symbol of love. Essentially a mausoleum it is a symbol also of beauty. No wonder it continues to be recognized as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
It is a Moghul Building made entirely of marble with gems, precious and semi-precious stones inlaid. It is located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India.
The Taj Mahal, an iconic historical structure and monument in India, was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century. Jahan reigned as the fifth emperor of the Mughal dynasty from 1628. The monument was built as a tomb for the wife of the emperor who died aged only 38 years.
A famous architect, Ustad Isha, designed this massive monument. It was decided to make a white marvel monument on the bank of river Yamuna. The construction works began in 1632, and about twenty thousand workers labored day and night for long twenty two years. The construction of the wonderful building completed in 1953.
Symbol of love
Taj Mahal was commissioned to be built by Shah Jahan, one of the greatest of the Moghul emperors, in memory of his Persian wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Mumtaz Mahal died during childbirth. The sarcophagus of Mumtaz Mahal was placed in the center of one of the lower halls with a cenotaph in the upper hall. Shah Jahan was also later on laid next to his wife in a bigger sarcophagus.
Building
Taj Mahal is made up of a central dome and surrounded by four smaller domes and minarets, typical of Moghul architecture. However, unlike the other structures, it is made of marble instead of sandstone. The latticework and the interior and exteriors are breath-taking with intricate patterns of lotus, creepers and geometrical designs.
Gardens
The gardens surrounding the structure are lavish and beautiful. They have water channels with fountains. It is believed that once the British took Taj Mahal in their own hands, they redesigned the gardens to suit their preferences.
Taj Mahal is one of the most important tourist places in India. It has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Taj Mahal was declared as a world heritage site by the UNESCO in 1983, and it’s currently under the Indian archeological survey.
