National Unity Day or also known by the name of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas gets celebrated on 31st October every year, and it gets celebrated to memorize Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who always believed in the unity of the country.

First time National Unity Day was celebrated on 31st October 2014 and the motive to celebrate this wonderful day was to offer tribute to the efforts made by the great Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to unite India.

Here is how National Unity Day gets celebrated:

  • In 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the day to unite the country which was the motive of a great politician and freedom fighter Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. 31st October is the birthday of the great freedom fighter, and that is why on his birthday the National Unity Day started getting celebrated.
  • On this day, a marathon in various parts of the country gets organized by local political parties to memorize Sardar Vallabh, Bhai And Marathon gets organized because a lot of people participate in the marathons and it shows the unity of the country.
  • These marathons are not affected by people of any religion as people from any religion and community can participate in these marathons which shows the actual unity within the country.
  • Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel was the first Deputy Prime Minister and the first Home Minister of the country, and that is why he has a great hand in maintaining peace in the country. Students in various schools give speeches about his greatness, and thus a lot of unaware students get to know about a personality.
  • Various police officers and NCC staff do a march past on this day which is the third event after the marathon and pledge for unity ceremony. All these three events take place in various big as well as small cities in the country.

These were a few points which tell that how the National Unity Day gets celebrated in the country every year. People remember Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel for all the good works that he did for the country, and various new statues of him or any new events on unity gets inaugurated by people on this very special day of 31st October.
