Raja Rammohan Roy is one of the most important people in the history that every Indian should get known about because he made so many reforms for the betterment of the people and never really thought for his advantage. He is the person who made people of India independent from lots of social evils.
He was born in 1774 in Hoogly, Bengal and he belonged to a rich Brahmin family that followed all the Brahmin rituals very strictly.
He studied various languages which were trending at that time and started getting more into social activities. He was the one who fought against Sati Pratha as he came to know about it from people of Bengal provision about this ritual and he went to Lord William Bentinck who understood his sentiments and banned Sati Pratha for the people of Bengal. So, it can be said that Raja Rammohan Roy was the first one who stood for the betterment of women.
Raja Rammohan Roy also made some religious reforms, and he said that the holy books of various religions are actual Gurus for everyone and nobody should pray about any saint or priest.
He was not the only Bengali who worked for the betterment of the country, but it is very noticeable that he was the inspiration for a lot of other Bengalis like Rabindranath Tagore, etc.
He died in the year 1833, but before his death, he lightened up the fire among people of Bengal to become a social activist or even a freedom fighter due to which a lot of activists emerged from Bengal after his death.
These were a few points on the life of one of the famous social activists in the country Raja Ram Mohan Roy. Though he is not very famous in the country, he was the one who brought the actual change in Indians.
