City Life
City life can be luring to most people. This is because when one lives in a city, they can easily access social amenities, entertainment facilities and great infrastructure. The glamour of city life has been the major reason as to why there have been high levels of urban-rural migration. However contrary to what people believe city life has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages of city life
The first advantage of city life is access to electricity. Unlike many rural areas that have no electricity, majority of the houses in the city have electricity which is a convenience to many.
When you live in the city, you have access to better roads and better means of transport. Cities have access to better road networks, airports and trains that ease transportation.
Cities also are better trading centers. A business that is located in a city is more likely to grow as compared to a business situated in the village.
There are also more job opportunities in the city. This is because many industries and commercial centers are found in cities.
There are better and more educational facilities in the city. This leads to a high literacy level for the people in these areas as compared to those in the village.
City life also encourages cultural integration. This is due to the fact that in cities, people come from different regions and interact in work and residential areas. Cultural integration is hence enhanced.
It is also easy to access health facilities in the city. You can get better medical attention in the city as most of the major hospitals and doctors are located there.
Living in the city will also give you access to entertainment. There are many entertainment centers located in the city and various attraction sites like game parks and museums.
Another advantage of city life is access to shopping centers. It is very easy for one to purchase basic essentials since shopping centers are many and accessible.
It is also advantageous to live in the city as you will get access to technological advancements. Once new technology is developed, people living in urban areas are often the first to access it.
Disadvantages of city life
One disadvantage of city life is Due to the levels of unemployment in the city, people result to crime to earn a living.
City life is also more expensive than rural life. The cost of food, water, housing and electricity is very high in the city as compared to rural areas.
Another disadvantage of city life is traffic congestion. Due to the high number of cars in the city, traffic tends to be an issue especially in peak hours when people are going to work and from work.
There are also high levels of pollution in the city. There is air pollution due to industrialization and environmental pollution caused by poor waste disposal.
Sewerage systems are also another bad side of city life. Due to the high levels of population, a lot of people use the same sewerage system which causes blockage if not well maintained.
There is also overpopulation in the city. This makes walking in the streets hard as you will most likely bump into other people which may be a discomfort.
When one lives in the city they are also exposed to noise pollution. This is due to the many entertainment centers and high number of cars.
It is also very easy to lose one’s culture when staying in the city. This is due to the exposure to different cultures.
Another disadvantage of living in the city is that land can be expensive and hence most people accumulate loans in mortgages and rent which affects their finances.
Conclusion
City life can be great if one has a stable source of income. However, living in the city with no job can be very difficult which may lead to people opting for illegal ways to get money. It is hence advisable to migrate to the city with a stable job or with a business idea that you can develop.

Those who live in cities are exposed to better living conditions, This life is the kind of life that every citizen always aims at, people living in cities have better access to food and other necessities this is because every urban city of India has a local governing body that takes care of its people unlike those people living the villages. The struggle to survive reduces in the city as there are more commercial corporations to offer jobs.
Advantages of city life compared to rural life
The lives of people in the cities are exposed to better living conditions like;
- In cities, conditions of the houses are better. Some live in self-contained houses at an affordable price if you are lucky enough to have a job.
- Better infrastructure. There is access to better roads than in the villages.
- Availability of electricity.
- Availability of cheap and affordable accommodation and toilet facilities.
- There are better sewage facilities.
- There is access to education facilities such as colleges and universities.
- There are many commercial sectors and people can set up their political careers easily.
- Availability of proper health care.
Disadvantages of city life
- A lot of the populations live in the slums under very poor conditions. In the city of Mumbai, a lot many people live there, when the monsoon season sets in they are drenched and slum dwellers get wet and uncomfortable.
- Crowded cities. Crowding is a problem as it causes traffic jam. Among other issues.
- Noise and air pollution caused by industries and automobiles.
- People in the cities have lost the sense of human touch due to technological advancement.
Conclusion
India lives in its villages and that is why the government should ensure that villages are not left behind in development issues. The prosperity of the country depends in its villages.
