Short Essay on Fundamental Rights

Fundamental rights are the basic rights that must be made available to every human being. As the citizens of India every Indian has been guaranteed the following six fundamental rights by the Constitution of India. The Fundamental rights are as below:

Right to equality: Every individual is equal in the eyes of law. Everyone has the same rights to a public space and to public employment irrespective of their gender, colour, cast or religion. The constitution abolished the practice of untouchability. Also the titles would not be subject to any special treatment.

Right to Freedom: Freedom of six types, although within reasonable limits are taken to be the basic right for every individual. Freedom of speech and expression, freedom to practice any lawful profession, freedom to move or settle anywhere throughout the territory of India, Freedom to have peaceful public assemblies and to form associations are the rights available to all Indian citizens

Right against exploitation: Slavery and child labour are prohibited in India. No one can be forced against their will to exploitative situations.

Right to Religious Freedom: The constitution declares India to be a secular country. Every Individual has a right to practice his or her religion of choice, without having to pay a religion based tax. State sponsored institutions cannot give preference to any particular religious practice. State schools cannot give a particular religion oriented education.

Right to Life: Every Individual has this right whereby he cannot be denied the right to live or to be free except by law. As to the criminal offence, every individual has the right to defend himself by a chosen lawyer and if proven guilty by fair trial, cannot be given a punishment higher than that is permissible by law.

Right to education and culture: Every child has the right to education. In fact primary education is not just free but compulsory for all children aged 6-14 years. Religious minorities are allowed to set up their own schools or educational institutions. Also each culture is allowed to practice their language script and literature.

Right to constitutional remedies: In case of encroachment on the individual’s rights, every individual has the right to approach the court of law for demanding justice.

Conclusion: The fundamental rights to every citizen ensure a democratic and open environment for every individual to attain his highest potential.
