Save Water: Short Essay on ‘Save Water’ for Students

Category: Essays and Paragraphs On December 4, 2018 By Various Contributors

Save Water

‘Save water’ we hear so often. Why is water so important and why do we want to save it?

No one can survive without water, just like air. Humans, animals, plants are made up of water largely. It needs to be regularly rehydrated by drinking. Drinking water has to be pure.

To maintain a hygienic body it needs to be cleaned daily by bathing. Similarly, for washing and cleaning, we need clean water.

There is a limited supply of clean potable water. It should be used

Too much pollution in the water bodies is limiting the supply even more since the water is not fit for consumption anymore.

Excessive use of water for bathing, letting taps run, drip are the ways good water gets wasted, and we do not leave enough for drinking or other consumption.

Water purifiers solve partly the problem of drinking water, but slowly the water level underground is also being affected, causing a water shortage and total outage. Cape Town has become a water-less town, and many more cities around the world are headed in the same direction.

Global warming is also causing the water sources to dry up to add to the problem of water shortage.

How to reduce water usage:

  • Turn off the tap when you are not using the water.
  • If you are using a western toilet, then place a device for cistern displacement in the toilet’s cistern.
  • Use a shorter shower which limits water usage or combines water with air to reduce the flow rates.
  • Make use of full loads in your dishwasher and washing machine.
  • Make sure to fix all the leakages and dripping taps in the water as it can waste around 15 liters of water in a day.
  • Keep a water butt connected to your This water can be used to water plants, wash windows or clean your car.
  • Make use of a drip, sprinkler or a watering can to water your garden rather than using a hosepipe.
  • Install a water meter in your home to monitor your water usage.
  • Make sure to use goods and electronics that are water efficient.
