Co-education is a system of education where both girls and boys receive education together in the same class. This is in contrast to the all-girls or all-boys system of education or schools as was prevalent in the past and is often found even now. Coeducation is gaining popularity in the recent times with growing awareness of gender equality. There are advantages and disadvantages to co-education.
Coeducation recognises the need for girl’s education as much as boys and provides a level playing field by treating them as equals. This brings down incidences of gender bias in the society.
In a co-educational system the diversity of the class is an enriching factor for the psychological and personality growth. A combined class gives a more complete picture to any discussion.
Girls and boys grow differently emotionally. In a coeducation system the various emotions are a strong base to personality development and a preparation for real life situations in work or domestic roles.
