My Grandmother – Short Essay

Category: Essays and Paragraphs On January 13, 2019 By Ananda

My grandmother is my favourite person in the whole world. She is a kind hearted, humble and generous lady. Appearance wise she seems to be nice, friendly and simple. But those who really know her admire her for her wit, her sharp intellect and her assertive personality.

My grandmother was alive at the time of partition of the subcontinent and she often tells me about it. Her nostalgia for the past is apparent in the way she suddenly seems sad and solemn. But she feels it her duty to inform me about the history of our forefathers. She would often tell me a story before bedtime when I would visit her. I used to look forward to hearing them.

My grandmother spoils me and indulges me. She showers me with candies, toys and books on her visits. I enjoy spending time with my grandmother because she is an interesting person. She has experienced many things in life and she shared those experiences with me. She is an avid reader and we often discuss books. She got me my Harry Potter collection.

My grandmother is a woman of many talents. She is a great cook; her pulao is so delicious that nobody can resist complimenting it and taking many helpings. She is also good at knitting, singing, playing cards and debating. She often debates with grandfather on various topics and my grandfather relents to her arguments. She is very good with words and people too.

All who have met her confess to find her charming. She has a way of making you feel important and heard. This matters a lot to a child. She was no fool though and when she got angry she rarely lost composure. It is what I admired most about her. She maintained dignity even while she was under pressure. I think she is the most elegant person I know.

She has always treated my mother as her daughter. My mother admires and respects her too. The bond we all share has only deepened over time. And while most kids would look forward to vacations for travelling, I would be waiting for my grandmother to visit. She shaped me as the man I am today.
