A new year is the mark of a new calendar month, which comprises of 12 months. It is celebrated every first day of the first month to commemorate the New Year. On the other hand, a resolution means a commitment or what you intend to do.

- The Babylonians made a promise to their god that they will return what they borrowed and pay their debt. They always do this yearly.
- The Christians also made a New Year resolution on the watch-night which is called the eve of the New Year. (31st of December).

A lot of people make resolutions only because it appears to be the mode. They will gather the necessary paraphernalia like jogging shoes or diaries etc. with much gusto, and then within a few days, all will be forgotten till the end of December when it is time to make new resolutions!
