Responsibility – Short Essay. 

Responsibility can be defined as the process of an individual taking/doing an action and accepting the consequences that follow such an action. Naturally, a responsibility is doing exactly what is expected of you. There are various responsibilities that a person comes across in every stage of their lifetime.

A consequence can be defined as the result or aftermath of an action taken by a person. Knowing this, there are actually two kinds of consequences; the good and bad consequences. An example of this phenomenon is the consequence of getting to work early or late every day. Arriving early, you are entitled to praises and compliments, even also bonuses which are good consequences. Meanwhile, arriving late daily to work will attract penalties, queries and might also lead to loss of the job which can be termed as bad consequences of your actions.

Importance of responsibility: Being responsible is important. This emphasizes that you do what is expected of you and you get good or positive consequences. Being responsible, there are many positive outcomes that come from it. Some of these outcomes are getting positive remarks from people around you, praises, also incentives. In the aspect of being irresponsible, one is open to all the negative outcomes that come from such actions. Being responsible also helps you to have peace and also gain trust from people around you and thy will know they can rely on you.

Accepting responsibility: There are two main parts of responsibility. They are;

  • Personal responsibility entails taking ownership of whatever action that one decides to do and also owning up to its consequences. The main fact of this is finding oneself in a situation and effectively making the choice to do the right thing or not.
  • Indirect responsibility entails going further than the comfort zone of one’s self and taking action on behalf of others. An example of this is an instance of seeing another person who is in need of assistance. This will require you to bring in responsibility. You render the required assistance if you are capable showing that you are responsible.

Conclusion: One of the most important factors a person can use to characterize himself is the act of accepting responsibility – be it personal or indirect responsibility.
