Climate Change - Essay 1.
Climate change can be defined as the great shift of the weather conditions in the world.
The terms ‘Climate change’ and ‘Global warming’ is often used interchangeably. Just like ‘Global warming’, climate change is also mainly associated with an increase in average temperatures.
Climate change is currently a hot topic under discussion by not just the environmentalists but also common people around the world. Climate refers to the atmospheric and other spatial conditions of a place over a long period. As against weather which is the condition of the atmosphere at a given point of time or a day, this covers a considerable duration of time.
When a place starts displaying a climate contrary to its normal patterns, it is said to have changed. If there is a regular downpour in a desert, it is a change in climate. A place starting winter in December may experience hot weather in January due to the climate change.
Causes of climate change
Many factors cause climate change. There is solar radiation; volcanic eruptions also affect climate change.
There are natural factors that have been known to contribute to it. The factor that has been discovered in recent times to be a heavy contribution to it is as a result of human activities. These activities create a phenomenon called global warming. It is that level of pollution which is considered to be the biggest reason for climate change. The greenhouse effect leads to global warming, and the earth is experiencing a shift in the climates or in the climate cycles leading to the seasons moving around differently than the normal.
Global warming is a result of human activities that are generating excess greenhouse gasses creating a great buildup of heat. Some of these gasses are carbon dioxide and methane. The major contributor is carbon dioxide.
Effects of climate change
The effects that climate change bring are in various forms. Some of them are severe droughts and also snowstorms in temperate regions. The effect doesn’t just stop at humans; it also affects the economy based on food growth. It is also affecting the habitats of some people because of the rising sea levels making their homes inhabitable.
Conclusion
There have been talks that companies are heavy contributors to climate change as a result of them burning fossil fuels. Some of these companies denied that they were factors, but research has brought it to light that they’re wrong. It is an indicator of how human activity can be counter-productive.
