Cricket – Speech
Good morning to the teachers and students gathered here. Sports are something that cheers our spirit. Team sports played at the international level bring in people together to cheer for their country. With respect to team sports, which sport is more popular in India than cricket? Today, I am here to talk about the favourite Indian sport Cricket.
Cricket is a team sport of 11 members per team. I am sure that everyone is quite aware of how cricket is played. There are batsmen who face the bowlers of opponent team to score for their team and fielders trying to catch the ball. Each team scores against the other and the team with most runs wins the game. There are several rules associated with cricket and it is often said that cricket is one of the most regulated games in the world.
Cricket came to India through the British. In the history of cricket in India, playing cricket was considered a symbol of the elite people who are associated with the British Rulers. Cricket teams of Indian locals also emerged and they played cricket to counter the exclusivity that British seemed to have on cricket. This was a period when the locals were not allowed to play the game against the British. In a way the present day popularity of Cricket in India is a reflection of this legacy.
The India cricket team is one of the stronger teams in the international cricket space. The team has managed to secure several victories and also has prominent players with records on the team. The Indian Premier League held every year in India is a reflection of the public following for the sport and also the strength of the team. Cricket is also played at various levels in India.
Ending a speech about cricket is incomplete if we fail to mention that cricket is more like an emotion in India. It is a sport loved by the masses and also builds a team spirit and bonding. We enjoy the sport and it is like a thriller more than just a sport for many of us.
