Good morning to my beloved teachers, dear students and all others gathered here. I am here to present a short speech on sports and games. I am sure all of us enjoy playing and have spent many evenings in the playground, sweating hard with excitement as we play our favourite sport.
Sports and games have an integral role in our holistic development and mould us into complete individuals.
Sports and games involve the sharpening of our physical and mental ability. The physical excretion that comes with sports is essential to maintain healthy activity in our body. They have a lot of physical health benefits. On the psychological development, sports and games improve levels of happiness and help release anger and frustration. They also build a team spirit and strategic thinking in people, enabling them to become more focused and sharpen thought process.
In India, there are a variety of sports and games that are played competitively from the district to the national level. Traditional sports like kabaddi and ko-ko are actively played at the school as well as in various competitive levels. Other international sports such as cricket, football, hockey, tennis and badminton are also very famous in India. It is never an exaggeration when we say that Indians are crazy about cricket. Sports and games are encouraged at the school level to bring out talent at a very early stage. However, we have to improve the facilities made available to our athletes and sports-persons to make it easier for them to compete and show their talents at international forums.
Sports and games are essential for both individuals as well as to countries. Competitive sports in India are developing but we still have to improve our standing. We have come across several stories of sports-persons who have defied so many odds to win for the country. Through this speech, I would like to urge each one of us to contribute to the development of the sporting talent of individuals who are fighting for it.
