Speech on World Environment Day
Hello everyone. Good Morning. It is wonderful to be here amongst you all. Today the topic of my speech is World Environment Day. This is a world campaign which is observed every year on the 5th Day of June. Environment simply means the surroundings that influence our healthy living and lifestyle. There are many unnatural factors that imbalances the ecological system that we are not aware of.
World Environment Day is not just a day for celebrations but also to identify the environmental challenges and take proper measures. Yes, it is in our hands, my beloved teacher, students & friends to transform & improve this environment. In my speech, I would like to bring it to the attention the different kinds of environmental problems & how we can make a positive difference.
Deforestation is a strong reason for environmental degradation. This is a major contributing factor to global warming. Also, this is threatening the lives of many animal species. Such forest loss is destabilizing the eco-system & causing huge damages to the climatic forces. It is high time to conserve & protect the forests. Tree plantation, going paperless & recycling items are some of the ways. On the eve of World environment day, let’s plant trees to contribute a little to nature.
Pollution is another factor which is contaminating our natural environment. Sources of pollutants such as noise, industrial chemical wastes, and improper disposal of garbage, smoke emitted by vehicles are toxins for human lives. Dear fellows, this is our conscientious effort that can keep our environment pollution-free. By engaging in good & healthy practices, we can solve this problem in an eco-friendly way. Examples could be many such as avoiding loud noises, using proper waste disposal system, avoiding smoking, preserving greenery, walking or riding a bicycle instead of a car. Technological advancement such as the use of smartphones, hybrid vehicles, use of agricultural technologies, new pesticides, are making normal life tough. The use of electric energy to keep gadgets running is keeping us engaged & contribute to toxic wastes. Such addictions might cause serious life-threatening effects. The age of wireless technology is keeping humans away from social engagement & exposing us to silent health risks.
Population explosion is another major reason of environment degradation. It is a question to environmental sustainability. The release of wastes & garbage are the major carriers of air & water pollution. With the increase in human population, their destructive activities are also on the rise. The forests being wiped out, hydropower projects, use of technology, poor sanitation facilities, and urbanization can adversely affect the environment. Its high time that population needs to be controlled.
Disasters or Natural calamities such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, dust storms, landslides, and tornadoes pose serious threats to the natural environment. Sudden fire due to damaged power lines or sudden gas leak can turn a moment into a natural disaster. Other natural disturbances such as fires, droughts produce severe consequences for the environment. Soil pollutants such as heavy metals, hydrocarbons & solvents are the most damaging to land degradation. Human activities are only responsible for soil pollution. The emission of toxins when fossil fuels are burnt can cause serious health hazards. This largely contributes to air pollution as they release carbon-di-oxide, methane & nitrogen that misbalance the atmospheric composition. To achieve a cleaner and pollutant-free environment, it is important to get things that are eco-friendly to reduce waste, re-use & re-cycle often.
Several human activities like modern lifestyle, waste management, and exploitation of natural resources can greatly impact the natural environment. We, humans, have the tendency to manipulate nature which in turn is disrupting the ecological balance. The burning issue of water contamination and water shortage needs to be seriously addressed. It is upto us to control the pollution level & keep our environment safe and healthy. We should realize that we cannot survive if there is a slight ecological misbalance. Let’s pledge to save the environment and make awareness for other people to do so.
World Environment Day is “Peoples Day”. It is a day to focus our attention on environmental concerns and do something to take care of our earth. So dear friends, all we need is to protect our environment and preserve it to enjoy the healthier side of the environment. At this day, let’s raise awareness through environmental campaigns so that we can dream of a better future tomorrow.
Thank you for listening to and paying attention to my speech.
