The National Book Trust was set up by the Government of India in 1957 in New Delhi to produce and encourage the production of good literature and makes it available at cheaper rates. The Trust subsidizes the publication of University level text books written by Indian authors; it also publishes selected works from Indian languages and organizes National Book Fairs and regional book exhibitions; it participates in the International Book Fairs such as at Frankfurt, Belgrade, Cairo, Moscow, Annam, etc.
