The physical division of the Himalayas can be done as follows

  1. Division of Himalayas from West to East
  2. Division of Himalayas from North to South

1. Division of Himalayas from West to East

The Himalayas can be broadly divided into three divisions:

  1. The Western Himalayas
  2. The Central Himalayas
  3. The Eastern Himalayas

The Sub-divisions of the Himalayas

Sub-division of Western Himalayas

  1. Kashmir Himalaya
  2. Himachal Himalaya
  3. Kumayun Himalaya

Sub-division of Central Himalayas

  1. Nepal

Sub-division of Eastern Himalaya

  1. The Darjeeling Himalaya
  2. The Sikkim Himalaya
  3. The Bhutan Himalaya
  4. The Arunachal Himalaya

2. Division of Himalayas from North to South

The Himalayas can be divided into four divisions:

  1. The Trans or Tethys Himalayas
  2. The Greater Himalayas
  3. The Lesser Himalaya
  4. The Outer Himalayas or the Siwalik Range.
