About Chhattisgarh State

The State of Chhattisgarh is located in the Central region of India. Major facts of the State of Chhattisgarh are mentioned below:

History: Some areas of present Chhattisgarh were Princely state during British rule till 1947. The British allowed them a large measure of autonomy. Later on, they were merged with Madhya Pradesh. The people of the land demanded a separate autonomous state and Chhattisgarh was formed on November 01, 2000.

Population: The state of Chhattisgarh is 16th most populous state in India with a population of around 25.5 million people.

Land Size: With an area of 135,190 sq.km, Chhattisgarh is 10th largest in terms of land area.

Religion: More than 98 % of the people living in Chhattisgarh are Hindus.

Language: Hindi and Chattisgarhi language are used by majority of people. Chhattisgarhi language is a dialect of Hindi.

Minerals: Chhattisgarh has one the richest mineral wealth in India. Around 28 types of minerals are found here, including iron ore, bauxite, limestone, coal, gold and diamond. The state accounts for around 23% of the iron ore deposits of India.

Neighbouring States: Chhattisgarh is surrounded by the states of Madhya Pradesh, Maharastra, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh.

Districts: There are 27 districts in Chhattisgarh.

Capital City: The capital city, Raipur, is a fast growing commercial city.

Climate: Summers are very hot and humid. The temperature sometimes reaches as high as 45 degree Celsius during summer. Winters are pleasant.

Places of Interest: Burha Talab, Dudhadhari Temple, etc.

National Parks and Sanctuaries: With a phenomenal 44% of the total area of the state is covered by forests, the state of Chattisgarh is truly a “green state”. There are three National Parks such as Indravati National Park, Kanger Valley National Park and Guru Ghasidas National Park. There are eleven wild life sanctuaries as well.

Visit: The best time for tourists to visit the state of Chhattisgarh is November to January.

Road: The road network of Chhattisgarh is superb. There are 11 National Highways that connects Chhattisgarh to other major towns in India. The State Highways are also in place.

Railway: Railway network is well connected. A metro railway is being proposed.

Airport: It has only one airport at Raipur.
