India is a vast country with second largest population and seventh largest land area in the world. The population of India is more than 1.2 billion.
There are 29 states mainly on the basis of linguistic lines. There are wide variety of languages and that of culture, festivals, dress and mode of living is even greater.
There lies cultural unity among Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and other communities in India.
Geography
On the north of India there are Himalayan mountain ranges. It protects India as its guardian. There is Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and Arabian Ocean in the south, south-east and south-west respectively.
The highest point in India lies in the Kanchenjunga mountains. The longest river is River Ganga.
National
India has a tri-colored national flag. The three colors are saffron, white and green. The Ashok Chakra in the center of the India flag denotes righteousness.
The national anthem and song are “Jana Gana Mana” and “Vande Mataram” respectively. In the National Emblem, there are four lions standing back to back denoting courage and strength.
History
The civilization of Harappa and Indus Valley in India is believed to be more than 4000 years old. The Rig Vedic period started at around 1700 B.C. India was highly civilized and well developed by 500 B.C. India witnessed a golden period under Gupta Empire during 320 A.D and 500 A.D. The Delhi Sultanate ruled from 1206 to 1526. The Mughal period was from 1526 to 1857. Bahadur Shah II was the last Mughal Emperor. The British ruled thereafter. India got its independence on 15th August, 1947.
Religion
Several religions originated from India such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism. The religion that people practice in India includes Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Islam, Christianity, Jainism, etc.
Language
There is no national language in India. There are many regional languages and several other local dialects. These languages mainly belong to Indo-Aryan and Dravadian family. There are 22 official languages in India.
Festivals
The major Hindu Festivals are Diwali, Durga puja, Dussehra, Raksha Bandhan, Holi etc. The major Muslim festivals are Ramadan, Eid, Muharram, etc. The major Sikh festivals are Holla Mohalla, Vaisakhi, Guru Nanak Gurpurab, etc. The Christians celebrate Christmas, Good Friday, Easter, St. Valentine’s Day, etc.
Important Cities
New Delhi is the Capital city of India. The other metro cities are Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai. The other major cities are Bangalore, Mysore, Chandigarh, Raipur, etc.
Culture
Indian Culture has a rich history of more than four thousand years. The national culture of India aims for perfect blend of Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Christianity, Sikhism, and other wide variety of regional cultures.

India (Republic of India) is a country that is in the Asian continent. It is in the southern part of the Asian continent. The population is over 1.2 billion. The capital of India is New Delhi.
In South Asia, India is the largest country in that part. In terms of the world, it is the seventh largest. It is also known for having the most populous democracy in the world. India is also known to be very rich in culture and tradition.
India is also situated between three bodies of water namely; the Indian Ocean, the Arabic sea and the Bay of Bengal.
The national emblem of the nation is an image of 4 lions that are seen standing back to back.
India is known for its richness in culture. India is a very broad and rich country as it possesses a lot of things ranging from the largest film industry in the world, the establishment of the Taj Mahal which is one of the highly recognized structures in the world. There are also many languages that are spoken there. Some of them are;

- Telugu
- Tamil
- Sanskrit
- Punjabi
These are not the only languages spoken there as there is a vastness in culture. People also speak Urdu, Maithili, Konkani, Kashmiri, and other languages.
In terms of technology, India has also advanced technologically in recent years as they also have architectural wonders. They accomplished the feat of sending a spaceship to Mars in 2014. This feat made them the fourth country to do so and the only Asian country to achieve that feat in the whole world. Also, in terms of entertainment, India possesses the biggest movie industry in the world. It is called Bollywood.

Even though the British had their rule over India for 200 years, India used to be one of the richest nations in the early 17th century. The wealth India had in loads caught the attention of Christopher Columbus – the famous Italian explorer and navigator. He left on his maiden voyage hoping to discover the sea route to India but ended up discovering the United States by mistake.
There is so much my nation has gladly been offering to people from all walks of life. It has a multitude of tourist destinations that are soaked in natural beauty. The hills, seas beaches, mountains, lakes, rivers and plateaus found in various cities are some of the reasons that entice people to come and give a touch of discovery to its regions.
If you were to ask me about the culinary tradition, I’d be at a loss for words. Although I’m a foodie who just cannot do without leaving my taste buds satisfied, there are still many places in India that I yet to explore for their immensely rich in taste food items.
