Name: The word “Jharkhand” means “The Land of Forests”. In regional language meaning of “Jhar” is Gold. So it can also be said that the meaning of “Jharkhand” is “Piece of Gold”.
Existence: The former state of Bihar was divided into a separate the present states on Bihar and Jharkhand. It came into existence on 15th November 2000
Boundary: Jharkhand is surrounded by Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal.
Population: As per Census 2011, the total population of the state is 32,966,238. Population wise, Jharkhand holds 13th rank.
Land Area: Its land area is 79,714 sq. km. Land area wise, Jharkhand holds 15th position.
Language: Its Official languages are Hindi, Santhali, Bengali, Mundrai etc.
Literacy: Its literacy ratio is 67.6%
Cities: Ranchi is the Capital City of Jharkhand. Ranchi is also known as the industrial city. Dumka is the sub-capital city of Jharkhand. Jamshedpur is the largest and the biggest industrial city of the state.
Minerals: Out of total mineral resources of the country, 40% is from Jharkhand which is actually 18% of the Nation’s Mineral Production.
Climate: Cold-Weather Season takes place from November to February whereas Hot-Weather Season takes place from March to mid-June.
Connectivity: Jharkhand has its domestic airports in Ranchi and Jamshedpur. Hence it is well connected with airways. It is also well connected with Roadways and Railways.
Places of Interest: Tribal Research Museum (Ranchi), Tagore Hills, Ranchi Lake, Jagannath Temple etc. are some of the important places to visit.
