Maharashtra is located in the Western part of India which is far more ancient than the magnificent snow-capped Himalaya. It is the richest state in India. Around 15% of the industrial output of India is contributed by Maharashtra. Find below the important facts about Maharashtra:

Existence: It was established in 1st May 1960.

Boundary: Maharashtra is surrounded by the Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Arabian Sea.

Population: As per Census 2011, the total number of population is 112,372,972. Maharashtra holds 2nd position as population wise.

Land Area: The land area of Maharashtra is 307,713 sq. km. Maharashtra ranks 3rd position in area wise.

Language: The Official Language of Maharashtra is Marathi.

Literacy: Its Literacy Ratio is 82.9%

City: Its Capital City is Mumbai. Mumbai is the Financial Capital of the Nation and it is also the largest city in India. Nagpur is the Second Capital rather Winter Capital City of the State.

District: There are total numbers of 35 districts in Maharashtra.

Connectivity: Maharashtra is well connected on Roadways, Railways and Airways.

Best Time: The Best Time to visit Maharashtra is between September and March.

Places of Interest: It is a land of Chhatrapati Shivaji, Films, Ganesh Puja and many more which attracts visitors. Gateway of India (Mumbai) is one of the greatest attractions which attract visitors all over the world. Other major places to visit are Pune, Nagpur, and Mahabaleshwar etc.

Festivals: Ganesh Festival is very popular here. The two Muslim festivals which are very popular in Maharashtra are Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha ba. There are other festivals which are celebrated here are Holi, Diwali, Navratri, etc.

Religion: Religions which are present in Maharashtra are Hinduism, Islam, , Jainism, Christianity, Sikhism, Judaism, Zoroastrians and Buddhism.
