The political drama written by Vishakhadatta in the fifth century A.D. in the Gupta period is another important work on the Mauryan period.
It describes in detail as to how Chandragupta Maurya got the help of Kautilya and overthrew the Nanda dynasty.
Side by side we get a glimpse of the social, economic and religious life of the people in those days.
This work is not written in the Mauryan period, yet its author did his best to base his drama on the information that was then available in the fifth century A.D. which is not now available.
